The Universe

The Lexicon

A few words carry this world. Here stand its own, named terms, not explained to the end, only far enough that one senses the threshold behind them. (The foundations, the All-One and the thresholds, dwell in the Cosmology.)

The Aeon

A span of time so vast that a human life vanishes within it. Menelaus measures in aeons what you count in years, and for that very reason a single day often weighs heavier to him than a whole year does to you.

The Chronicle

The record the chronicler keeps: no heroic saga, but a confession. What remains when one listens rather than acts, and puts question after question to an immortal until he begins to know himself.

The Gift

What one gives outlasts the giver. The pear tree that goes on giving even from the grave is its image: it is not the name that remains, but the shape of an open hand, passed on into something that no longer needs the one who gave it.

Aletheia

The sword of Menelaus, the unveiler of truth. It carries a fragment of Lyralei and hums where something hidden presses toward the light.

Kenosis

The armour of Menelaus, the self-emptying. Empty enough to let all things flow through, strong enough not to break.

Star-metal

Metal that is not of this earth, drawn since time began to the thresholds. Star-stone that falls from the sky where the world is thin.
